"Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces’ is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary with an exhibition and the launch of a major publication edited by Charlotte Day, which provides a visual and textual account of Gertrude’s 20 years of innovative exhibition, studio, cultural exchange and public programs.
For the first time in Gertrude’s 20-year history, the entire building will be engaged by a dynamic and multi-faceted exhibition which looks over Gertrude’s 20-year history and also towards the future, presenting exciting new works which continue Gertrude’s commitment to presenting the latest innovations in exploratory, critically-engaged contemporary art practice. As well as the 3 gallery spaces at Gertrude, the exhibition will occupy the building’s stairwells and corridors; in addition, several of the artists’ studios will house collaborations between past and present studio artists; and a communal “meeting place” in which members of the community will be welcome to browse through Gertrude’s archives and publications, as well as collected magazines and journals which have helped shape visual culture and critical discourse locally, nationally and internationally."
Christian was a studio artist at G.C.A.S. in 2003-4.
